Activating an Applet Design
Before an Applet Design can be used in a Deployment, it must be activated first. Activated designs are locked from making further edits, and this is done to prevent unintentional changes that affect production.
The first version of a design you activate will be immediately activated. However, for other versions you will be presented with an Activation Dialog:
This dialog will allow you activate the new version and also archive the previous version. You can opt-out of archiving the previous version by unchecking the box in the picture, but this isn't recommended because archiving old designs helps keep the list page tidy.
The dialog shows the list of actions that will be performed. If any previous versions are used in a deployment, then additional actions will be added for updating those deployments to use your new version:
In this way, you can use the same Applet Design across many deployments, and update them all at once. Simply click "Apply All Changes" and each step will be performed one by one.
You can opt out of updating any of these deployments by toggling their checkbox. However, if any deployments are still using the old version, the old version will not be able to be archived. In this case, you should also uncheck the "Archive previous version" step too.
The activation dialog also allows configuration of deployment parameter values. Simply expand the deployment update step to see/edit the deployment parameters for each linked design in the deployment.
Deployment parameter values are validated before any actions are taken. If any params are incorrectly configured, the offending step will be highlighted.
